WINTER AT DARWIN
In addition to our summer experience, and our fall hunting camp, we offer a unique winter skiing experience, with some of the most remote terrain in the lower 48 states.
TRIP OUTLINE
Meet Oliver and the rest of your guides at the Forest Service boundary, where the pavement ends. After packing your gear on tow sleds, and a brief introduction to riding snowmobiles, hop on your own (or share one with a friend) and begin the trek in to Darwin. The journey in takes one to one-and-a-half hours, with striking views of the Wind River range throughout.
You’ll arrive at the main lodge, where a hot lunch will be waiting. After unpacking in our newly-renovated cabins—winterized with fresh sheets, hot water, and a wood stove—you can head out for an afternoon ski. We offer guided alpine touring, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and skate skiing on our groomed lap in the pasture. You’ll return home from skiing and sit by the fire, eat appetizers, and can grab a drink and take it to the sauna.
After relaxing, a delicious dinner is served in a warm room. Food is special at Darwin, due to our sustainable food program that sources ingredients from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and you will taste the passion that we put into every dish.
Finally, walk across the meadow—underneath a star-filled sky—to your cabin, which is kept warm with a wood-burning stove.
In the morning, wake up to fresh snow and a hearty breakfast. Your guides will check the weather and snowfall to decide with you what to ski. Pack lunch and a Thermos of coffee and tour from the ranch, or hop on the snowmobiles for the day’s adventure. Climb peaks to ski steep terrain, tour around for a look at wildlife, or go far in search of the deepest turns—the choice is yours.
