Horseback Riding Trips for All Abilities

We offer guided horseback rides that traverse through the surrounding Wyoming wilderness, ranging from several hour jaunts to entire day trips. Our riding with experienced guides on well-trained horses is available every day of your stay except for Saturday.

For beginners, our dude ranch has a number of placid, easy-going horses, and we will teach you the basics of handling your steed. More advanced riders will have opportunities to move along as they set off for far-flung alpine lakes and peaks. We will help you plan your days so you are as challenged as you wish to be during your time with us.

Well-Trained Horses with Sustainable Grazing

At Darwin Ranch, we are committed to sustainable practices and the well-being of our horses. Our rotational horse grazing program replicates the grazing style of wild animal herds and has revived native grasses on our ranch without the use of any chemical fertilizers. Ranch guests are invited to join our wranglers in running the herd to a large enclosed pasture, where the horses eat at one spot for a night or two before moving to a new section throughout the summer.

Our mustangs were removed from rangelands through the Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse and Burro Program. They were trained for general riding by inmates at the Wyoming Honor Farm, and then sold at auction. These range-savvy horses have great instincts and tough feet, make fantastic mountain horses, and receive continuous training and care at the ranch.

We will ensure that you feel confident and connected throughout your ride, so that you can focus on the immense natural beauty of the Gros Ventre Wilderness.

Your guide will share vivid stories of Darwin Ranch’s 120 years of history and their knowledge of the native history and the abundant flora and fauna of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

At Darwin Ranch, you can completely disconnect from the outside world, but you’ll still experience plenty of amenities during your all-inclusive Wyoming horse ranch vacation.

Converse over farm-to-table meals that are locally sourced primarily from our organic sister farm and supplemented from other farms in nearby counties. Soak in our wood-fired hot tub while watching the sunset, or enjoy a cocktail from the deck of our main lodge overlooking the meandering Gros Ventre River. Finally, drift off to sleep in our historic hand-built cabins appointed with modern style and high-quality bedding.
