Secluded Fly Fishing from Our Lodge and Ranch
Cast for native Snake River Fine Spotted Cutthroat Trout on the pristine Upper Gros Ventre River, surrounded by breathtaking mountain wilderness.
Our Wyoming fly fishing lodge near Jackson Hole offers private river access just steps from your accommodations. From there, explore waters for miles in either direction, unlikely to encounter a fellow angler.
Fish in Complete Solitude
Nestled in the Gros Ventre Wilderness three hours from Jackson Hole Airport, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more secluded fly fishing lodge. Darwin Ranch is one of the few surviving homestead inholdings in a U.S. National Forest.
Experience blue-ribbon fly fishing on the Upper Gros Ventre and nearby Clear Creek, or embark on a day trip to high mountain rivers and lakes on foot or on horseback.
Pristine Waters with Prolific Access
Protected by Wyoming's Wild & Scenic Designation, the Upper Gros Ventre River hosts thriving Snake River Cutthroat and native Rocky Mountain Whitefish in a healthy fishery.
Depending on the season and conditions, rainbow and brown trout can also be found nearby on the Upper Green River and some smaller streams in the area. All fishing is catch-and-release using barbless hooks, with water temperatures permitting wet wading throughout the season.
Guides Available for Your Needs
Your stay at Darwin Ranch includes “light guiding” from staff as part of daily activities, but dedicated, professional fly fishing guides can be booked for full-day trips by request.
For young anglers and others new to the sport, our ranch is the ideal, low-pressure destination for learning. Cutthroat are known for their naivety and willingness to rise for dry flies, offering second- or third-chance opportunities if you tangle a cast or lose a fish.
More Than a Fishing Lodge
The lodge at Darwin Ranch is the heart of this historic property – where guests gather for coffee on the porch, fresh meals from the kitchen, and stories shared by the fire.
When guests are not exploring the outdoors, the living room is a peaceful spot for settling into a good book, engaging in an art project or diving into a board game.
After a day of casting into wild mountain streams, unwind in the wood-fired sauna or soak in the hot tub overlooking the river. Evenings bring cocktails, a hearty farm-to-table dinner, and maybe a little music to complete the day.
Explore at Your Own Pace
At Darwin Ranch, adventure unfolds naturally, whether you're searching for cutthroat, hiking into the backcountry, identifying wildflowers, or saddling up to help run the horses to pasture.
Guests are encouraged to engage with the wild landscape not just through guided experiences, but through their own curiosity and sense of exploration.
We can help create custom itineraries with not only fishing, but complementary activities and intentional downtime to deepen your appreciation for the natural beauty and solitude.
